PATIENT GUIDE

A change in stool width: interpreting it alongside other symptoms

Masarat is created and supervised by Dr. Mohammed Hatem Alsubaih, Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon.

Stool diameter alone neither diagnoses nor excludes cancer. Shape can vary with consistency and evacuation. A new persistent change matters more than one isolated narrow stool.

Does thin stool mean cancer?

Stool diameter alone neither diagnoses nor excludes cancer. Shape can vary with consistency and evacuation. A new persistent change matters more than one isolated narrow stool.

What matters more than a photograph?

Record duration, frequency, bleeding, weight loss, pain and incomplete emptying. Include family history and previous test results. A photograph or diameter description cannot provide a reliable personal cancer probability.

When is colonoscopy considered?

Assessment determines the need, particularly with persistent change, anemia, bleeding or risk factors. Screening without symptoms differs from investigating a new symptom; do not wait for routine screening if symptoms warrant review.

When is help urgent?

Severe bloating with vomiting and inability to pass stool or gas needs urgent assessment for possible obstruction. Otherwise, a persistent change warrants a planned clinical review of the whole pattern.

Privacy and assessment scope

Questions run in this page without asking for your name, phone number or intimate images. Optional AI assessment sends your answers and text to Cloudflare only with your consent; files are sent when you request extraction. Remove identifiers before upload. The app creates no permanent medical record. Its automated output is not a personal consultation with the doctor. Answers do not persist after reload and are not sent automatically to the clinician. WhatsApp is an external service; the booking button does not attach medical answers. Saved or copied reports contain health information: review them and choose who to share them with.

App files may be cached locally for offline use; this does not include assessment answers. Hosting services process ordinary web requests under their policies. Guidance is automated education, not a diagnosis, prescription or clinician-issued report.
