Investigation or screening?
Diagnostic colonoscopy investigates symptoms, anemia or abnormal tests. Screening concerns people without symptoms according to age, risk and local programmes. New symptoms may need assessment before routine screening age.
Does every bleeding episode require full colonoscopy?
No. Examination, age, family history, persistence, associated symptoms and previous tests guide the choice. Finding hemorrhoids does not remove the need when they fail to explain the overall picture.
What should preparation cover?
Ask about bowel cleansing, diabetes, blood thinners, an escort after sedation and biopsy results. Follow the centre’s instructions rather than someone else’s regimen. Poor preparation may reduce accuracy and require repeat testing.
