It is the tract’s connection to the anal canal. Reports may give a clock-face location and level. Interpret these with the imaging convention and clinician; an unvisualised opening must not be assigned an invented location.
How can I use the phrase at my visit?
Ask the clinician to show it on the images and explain its effect on the plan. Bring the full report, images and last operation date. Explaining one term is not interpreting the whole scan.
What can the report not decide alone?
Urgency also depends on symptoms and examination. Increasing pain with fever or swelling needs urgent assessment rather than waiting for a routine imaging review.
