What does MRI map?
MRI shows the tract’s relationship to sphincter muscles and may reveal branches or abscesses not visible externally. A useful report describes the internal opening, main tract and extensions rather than only saying a fistula exists.
How should the result be read?
Interpret the report with images and examination. “Complex” alone does not select an operation; inflammation and postoperative scarring can affect interpretation. Do not infer a missing classification from an automated summary.
What should I bring?
Bring original images, the report and dates of operations or seton placement, not a single screenshot. Ask whether the scan explains current symptoms and whether any opening or extension still needs confirmation.
