When is bleeding consistent with hemorrhoids?
Internal hemorrhoids can cause bright red bleeding during bowel movements without severe pain. Examination is needed to confirm the cause; colour alone is insufficient. Persistent bleeding after treatment requires reassessment.
Why might I need blood tests or colonoscopy?
Repeated bleeding may warrant assessment for anemia. Endoscopy depends on symptoms, risk factors and findings. Iron deficiency, unexplained weight loss or ongoing bowel change should not automatically be attributed to hemorrhoids.
How is confirmed hemorrhoidal bleeding treated?
Stool regulation and less straining are important. Persistent internal hemorrhoids may be suitable for banding or another procedure; selected cases need surgery. Prolapse, external components and previous treatment also matter.
What should I record?
Note frequency, dripping or clots, dizziness and blood-thinning medicines. Do not stop prescribed anticoagulants yourself. Heavy ongoing bleeding with weakness or fainting needs emergency care.
