What is balloon expulsion testing?
You attempt to expel a small balloon filled according to the centre’s protocol. It assesses evacuation and is neither treatment nor endoscopy. Privacy, position and testing method affect interpretation.
Does inability to expel it prove dyssynergia?
Not alone. Results are combined with symptoms, examination, manometry and sometimes defecography. Reference limits vary by method, so an internet time cutoff may not apply.
What happens afterwards?
If assessment supports an evacuation disorder, biofeedback may be discussed. Ask whether another test is needed and why. Do not recreate the test with household objects or excessive straining.
