Why is it unsuitable for some fistulas?
Significant muscle involvement, existing leakage and previous operations or scarring can change the choice. A small skin opening does not prove a simple tract. Ask about its muscle relationship and alternatives.
What should I understand about recovery?
An open wound may be intentional rather than failed stitches. Obtain cleaning, dressing and review instructions. Worsening pain after improvement, fever, new swelling or new continence problems should be reported.
