The fistula may accompany bowel inflammation requiring specialist medical treatment, while an abscess still needs drainage assessment. Gastroenterology and surgical teams coordinate care rather than merely closing the skin.
What needs assessment?
Tract anatomy, abscesses, rectal and bowel inflammation, and current medicines affect the plan. Bring endoscopy, biopsy and MRI records with medication names and dates. Do not stop immune treatment independently.
How is response measured?
Less pain and drainage are helpful but do not alone prove deep healing. Ask how response and seton removal will be assessed. New increasing pain or fever needs prompt review even during medical treatment.
