Pain during bowel movements or sitting: finding the source

Masarat is created and supervised by Dr. Mohammed Hatem Alsubaih, Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon.

Sharp pain during and after a bowel movement can occur with a fissure. Progressively worsening pain with swelling or fever raises concern for an abscess. Brief separated attacks follow a different assessment pathway. These patterns guide examination, not self-diagnosis.

Pain with stool or pain all day?

Sharp pain during and after a bowel movement can occur with a fissure. Progressively worsening pain with swelling or fever raises concern for an abscess. Brief separated attacks follow a different assessment pathway. These patterns guide examination, not self-diagnosis.

When is pain urgent?

Severe worsening pain needs urgent assessment, especially with fever, difficulty urinating or swelling. No visible lump does not exclude a deep abscess. Heavy bleeding or dizziness also requires urgent care.

How can examination be manageable?

Describe the location, timing and effect on sitting or bowel movements. Ask the clinician to explain each step and stop if needed. Parts of examination may be deferred or performed under anaesthesia when appropriate.

Why not just use hemorrhoid cream?

One cream cannot treat every cause. Record products tried and their effects. Avoid repeatedly applying irritating or numbing products without review; the treatment should address the source of pain.

Privacy and assessment scope

Questions run in this page without asking for your name, phone number or intimate images. Optional AI assessment sends your answers and text to Cloudflare only with your consent; files are sent when you request extraction. Remove identifiers before upload. The app creates no permanent medical record. Its automated output is not a personal consultation with the doctor. Answers do not persist after reload and are not sent automatically to the clinician. WhatsApp is an external service; the booking button does not attach medical answers. Saved or copied reports contain health information: review them and choose who to share them with.

App files may be cached locally for offline use; this does not include assessment answers. Hosting services process ordinary web requests under their policies. Guidance is automated education, not a diagnosis, prescription or clinician-issued report.
